The CatholicTV Network to Air Pallium Mass from Saint Peter’s Basilica

WATERTOWN, MA (June 27, 2013) – The CatholicTV Network will air the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, Pallium Mass, from Saint Peter’s Basilica on June 29, 2013 at 9:30AM and 8PM ET. The Mass will rebroadcast on June 30 at 11AM and 8PM.

On June 29, 2013, the Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul, Pope Francis will impose the pallium, a thin strip of white wool, emblazoned with six black crosses, on newly appointed archbishops. The pallium is a liturgical vestment worn by a metropolitan archbishop and is symbolic of metropolitan authority and unity to the office of the papacy.

Pope Francis confers the pallium for the first time since his election as Pope. The ritual ceremony was altered by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI in 2012, moving the rite of conferral to take place before the Mass, rather than after the homily as it has in the past.

Among those receiving the pallium this year are prelates from the United States: Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone (San Francisco), Archbishop Alexander K. Sample (Portland) and Archbishop Joseph W. Tobin (Indianapolis). The Installation of each archbishop aired on CatholicTV and CatholicTV.com.

CatholicTV has also premiered a new Blink series by Bishop Christopher Coyne, who served as the apostolic administrator of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis until Archbishop Joseph W. Tobin was installed as the sixth archbishop of Indianapolis. Bishop Coyne will be present at the Pallium Mass in support of Archbishop Tobin. The Blink series can be viewed at: www.CatholicTV.com/Catholic-church-liturgy.
