WATERTOWN, MA (September 13, 2012) –Debbie Rambo to Appear on Live Talk Show of the CatholicTV® Network
On Friday, September 14, 2012, Debbie Rambo, president of Catholic Charities of Boston will appear on the CatholicTV Network’s nationally broadcasted live talk show; This is the Day.
Deborah Rambo is the President and CEO of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Boston. In her current role, Ms. Rambo is responsible for guiding the strategic direction of one of the largest social services, not-for-profit agencies in Massachusetts. Focusing on CatholicTV’s Aging Gracefully month, Debbie Rambo will discuss the services provided by Catholic Charities to elders. The programs provide counseling, outreach, advocacy, information and referrals, as well as service coordination for families and caregivers.
As one of the largest providers of social services in Massachusetts, Catholic Charities of Boston offers nearly 100 programs and services in 29 locations around Eastern Massachusetts. Catholic Charities’ sites throughout Eastern Massachusetts helped 217,852 neighbors of all faiths last year. The story of Catholic Charities began in 1903 with John J. Williams, Archbishop of Boston. After witnessing the appalling social conditions of Boston's immigrant and predominantly Catholic population, the Archbishop envisioned an agency that would provide assistance and hope to families in need. Catholic Charities is building a just and compassionate society rooted in the dignity of all people.
The Elder Outreach Program provides social support, telephone reassurance, short-term supportive counseling, home visitation, assessments, outreach, education, and consultation free of charge. In Catholic Charities South, the program is offered to those living in the Plymouth County area. In South Boston, the program is offered to those living within BHA-funded elderly housing in South Boston.
The Somerville-based volunteer program connects caring elders with children. In a school setting, the elders tutor students from pre-school age through high school. The participants of this program, both the senior citizens and those they tutor, benefit from the positive interaction and intergenerational friendships.
With the Companions to the Aging program, Catholic Charities hopes to ease some of the loneliness that comes from being elderly. This is the only program in Lynn that provides free visitation service to the homebound. Companions visit weekly and provide pastoral support to those who desire it regardless of faith. Any elderly person living within Greater Lynn is eligible for this program.
The programs listed, as well as other resources are available for the elderly from Catholic Charities. To learn more about this organization visit: www.ccab.org.
