Jefferson City, MO (August 24, 2012) - LIFE Runners, a group dedicated to running and the pro-life cause, has named Vitae Foundation as its national charity beneficiary for 2013. This high octane group, now with over 30 chapters nationwide, runs in marathons and raises money for local Pregnancy Help Centers and like-minded organizations.

“The National LIFE Runners Team is blessed to be teamed up with the Vitae Foundation, filled with real Pro-Life champions and 20 years of awesome life-saving work. We selected Vitae to be our 2013 national beneficiary along with two beneficiaries within the area of the 2013 Black Hills 1mi/half/full Marathon (Rapid City Care Net and Sioux Falls Alpha Center),” according to LIFE Runners Founder and President Dr. Pat Castle. “Vitae's Pro-Life media mission resonates with the National LIFE Runners Team because our "REMEMBER the Unborn Jer 1:5" jersey works as a mobile Pro-Life billboard at national marathons. Our 2013 efforts will help fuel Vitae as they strive to grow a culture of Life.”

Vitae couldn’t be more excited about this incredible announcement.

“From the moment I met Pat Castle, I knew I was in the presence of someone who is a tremendous force for the pro-life cause,” Vitae President, Carl Landwehr, stated. “In such a short time he has ignited individuals to take their passion for running and turn it into a prayerful devotion that is carried out on the streets. Now they want to help Vitae’s mission in reaching out to women in need, who aren’t aware of life-affirming options when faced with an unintended pregnancy. We are humbled and grateful for their generosity.”

Since 2008, LIFE Runners has helped local Pregnancy Help Centers across the country. As it grew, it developed a Fall National Fundraising Campaign model helping three beneficiaries each year. For the Oct. 21, 2012, St. Louis 1mi/5K/half/full Marathon, LIFE Runners hope to raise over $50,000 for St. Louis ThriVe mobile medical center, St. Louis Good Shepherd for keeping families together, and Sioux Falls Alpha Center mobile medical center.

The 2012 team currently has over 350 LIFE Runners (runners/walkers ages 6 to 73 from 35 states), and each is expected to raise or contribute at least $250 in conjunction with a fall race. For students this is simply a goal. The money is then given to one of the beneficiaries or split between two or all three of the beneficiaries. Their fundraising efforts spread awareness, save mothers heartache, save children’s lives, and give others an opportunity to be part of this mission…All in Christ for Pro-Life! Sponsors are invited to receive their daily devotions by email or on Facebook, www.LIFEgroup413.org, which are penned by group members and over 100 guest authors.

Vitae’s own Anne Carmichael has run in several half marathons, and when introduced to LIFE Runners, she was immediately impressed and signed right up.

“LIFE Runners is an exciting and dynamic organization made up of a deeply faithful and committed membership. I am blessed to be a member of their advisory board and communications officer,” Carmichael noted. “Together we will maximize our effectiveness by saving more lives and changing more hearts and minds. It's an honor to serve both Vitae and LIFE Runners as we work to cross the finish line in this race for lives.”

Dr. Castle is also a member of Vitae’s Board of Directors. He is a Lt. Col. serving as the Medical Support Squadron Commander at Ellsworth Air Force Base in the Black Hills of South Dakota. He will emcee Vitae’s upcoming event in Sioux Falls, S.D., on Saturday, September 8. The National LIFE Runners are an event sponsor. Vitae’s Pro-Life Benefit Dinner is also serving as the pre-race meal for Sioux Falls LIFE Runners Chapter, as they are running in the Sioux Falls Marathon the next morning.

Vitae is also sponsoring the pre-race banquet for the 2013 National LIFE Runners Team at the Black Hills Marathon on Oct. 6. 2013. Recently Castle appeared on EWTN’s Life on the Rock, promoting LIFE Runners 2013 A-Cross the Country Relay for Pro-Life, a race that will begin next February 13 from the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and New York’s Brooklyn Bridge (simultaneously) and culminate in Sioux Falls on March 24.

Vitae Foundation is a national non-profit organization which uses mass media campaigns to reach women facing unplanned pregnancies. Vitae pioneered the research that provides a results-driven approach in using media to address the abortion issue. In addition to maintaining special websites, www.YourOptions.com and www.GravityTeen.com, Vitae’s presence in media markets across the country has included television and radio ads, outdoor and indoor billboards, Internet advertising, mobile ads, bus and subway ads and wallscapes.
