The Catholic Company Announces 1st Annual Catholic Garden Contest

CHARLOTTE, NC (July 5, 2012) - The Catholic Company, well known for their annual First Communion Photo Contest which receives dozens of entries each year, has launched a second photo contest as a brand new way for Catholics to show off their outdoor religious garden statues, a long-time Catholic tradition. Marian Gardens, with an outdoor Mary statue focal point, have been popular since the Middle Ages as a great family catechesis tool. But any Catholic garden statue, such as an outdoor St. Francis of Assisi statue, make great additions to any garden.

Gardening is known to supply a wealth of positive health benefits for the body and soul. Gardening is a great way to relieve stress while getting light exercise, as well as a way to encourage patience and creativity. When meaningful religious statues are added to gardens, these health benefits are accelerated by adding a spiritual dimension. A Catholic Garden then functions as a place of repose to pray a rosary, read the Catholic Bible, or simply meditate quietly. By creating this new photo contest, The Catholic Company hopes to encourage everyone to get the most out of the beautiful Catholic garden tradition.

Gretchen Filz, who writes for The Catholic Company blog, says, "If you haven't started gardening yet, you've still got plenty of time. We've already done tons of groundwork to get our customers inspired.  They can visit our Catholic Company Pinterest page where we've created a Marian Garden board as well as a Catholic Garden Ideas board, full of images from Catholic gardens around the web, how-to blogs, and lovely religious garden decor.  They can also view our great selection of Catholic garden gifts to find just the right inspirational touches for their gardens. We know how powerful a family garden can be when it becomes a place to relax and pray, so we want to encourage all of our customers to have their own Catholic Garden!"

The Catholic Garden Contest runs all summer long through Labor Day weekend, with the winner being announced before the end of September. The top prize is $100 gift card to The Catholic Company, with 3 runners-up receiving a $50 gift card. Customers have all summer to submit a photo, and with 4 prizes, the chances of winning are good.
