DOTHAN, AL (February 27, 2012) - In February, the Knights of Columbus council of St. Columba Church presented a check for $3000.00 to Denise Whitfield, Assistant Special Education Coordinator of the Houston County Schools.

The money, resulting from the Knights' special fundraising events, will help fund the Easter Seals Camp ASCCA Alabama Special Camp for Children and Adults. The camp is a nationally recognized leader in therapeutic recreation for those with both physical and mental disabilities. The year-round barrier free camp provides weekend and week long sessions on Lake Martin with a wide variety of activities, including horseback riding, fishing, tubing, swimming, environmental education, arts and crafts, canoeing and outdoor adventure elements.

With a highly trained staff, campers are helped to achieve equality, dignity and maximum independence. Benefits include a happier, healthier, longer and more productive life for children and adults of all abilities.

The Knights of Columbus is a fraternal organization of the Catholic Faith, dedicated to raising funds for community organizations that provide services to the challenged, needy and underprivileged. The St. Columba council consists of approximately 90 men who plan fish fries, candy sales and other events that raise money for the council's charitable giving.

In addition to supporting local educational organizations, the Knights distribute food baskets at Thanksgiving and toys for kids at Christmas.
