LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - According to Yahoo! News, Romney initially attempted to recruit a challenger to stand against Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton, but when his efforts revealed a futile mission, he decided to back off.
On Tuesday, one of Romney's advisers told Yahoo News Romney "feels like America hangs in the balance. He's very distraught about [Trump]. he thinks Trump is this vulgar, dangerous, principle-less, value-less opportunist - putting it mildly."
Republican National Committee Reince Priebus believes Romney's decision to back out of the recruitment was a wise decision.
"They can try to hijack another party and get on the ballot, but, look, it's a suicide mission for our country because what it means is that you're throwing down not just eight years of the White House but potentially 100 years on the Supreme Court and wrecking this country for many generations," Priebus explained on "Fox News Sunday."
Whether Priebus is correct or not, Romney's decision was not made lightly.
Trump's blasé approach to the creation and explanation of national plans paired with his childish Twitter complaints has made Romney question the American public's mentality.
"Where is the outrage?" Romney's adviser asked. "This isn't Venezuela. A politician can't say 'I don't like the press coverage of this paper so I'm going to threaten the business of the person who owns it.' That is [former Venezuelan President Hugo] Chavez."
Romney's distaste for Trump is no secret - and several others agree.
Comedian Dave Ross began the "IDK Not Trump Tho 2016" campaign as a joke concerning the questionable candidates left in the race. On one hand there is Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders - which many critics have described as a candidate who shouldn't be eligible as she is currently under federal investigation and a socialist - and Donald Trump, a man whose temper often leads to a flurry of off-the-cuff remarks, most of which hold the potential to fracture political ties with other nations.
