LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Adriana told ABC's Good Morning America that people should know better. "I mean, I don't know why people should hate me because it's just a photo. I didn't design the Web site. I didn't make it fail, so I don't think they should have any reasons to hate me."

critics have been making light of the Obama administration or the Web site itself rather than the woman behind the picture. Adriana says that the critics "have nothing else to do but hide behind the computer. They're cyber bullying."

On October 1, 2013, when the ACA's Web site launched to enroll Americans in health insurance through federally run exchanges, it was Adriana's smiling face that greeted them.

"Dubbed the 'enigmatic Mona Lisa of health care,' her face was soon mocked, Photoshopped, altered. She became the subject of late-night jokes, partisan hatred and intense speculation," ABC NEWS reports.

"The saga of the photo started innocuously enough. Seeking free family photographs, Adriana emailed a contact at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the agency responsible for the Affordable Care Act's rollout, about having photos of her and her family taken in exchange for allowing the photos to be used to market the new health care law."

The clincher to all the grief? Adriana "was never paid."

As consternating as this story is, it's a common one for many model who lend their image out who relinquish control over the final product.

Stories range from virginal, innocent girl selling their pictures to ad agencies - who then turn around and use their images to promote birth control or condoms! Even worse, rugged teenage boys, who pose for unscrupulous photography agencies in turn have their likenesses sold to homosexual pornographic magazines without their knowledge and consent.

There is little a model can do, unless they copyright their images. Many receive minimal fees from photographs that are then send for great sums of money.
