The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that sales of bulletproof backpacks for kids are soaring. The demand has surged after the mass murder of kids and teachers at a Connecticut elementary school last week.

ORLANDO, FL (Catholic Online) - Bullet Blocker's vice president, Elmar Uy said they normally sell 10-15 packs per week, but since last week, they have been selling from 50 to 100 per day.
There are several companies that sell similar items, all pledging to stop a bullet in the event of a rampage.
The backpacks retail between $200 and $500 and weigh less than a pound. They are often made of military-grade materials.
The entire concept is a tragedy in itself.
