El P. Michael Brehl, Superior General de los Redentoristas, llam贸 a los misioneros a "acompa艅ar con la oraci贸n al pueblo filipino, especialmente a las personas que residen en la regi贸n m谩s afectada" por el terremoto de 7,1 grados que el 15 de octubre golpe贸 el archipi茅lago.

ROMA (ACI/EWTN Noticias) - El terremoto se produjo a las 8:00 am (hora local) y, seg煤n relat贸 el P. Rafael Vieira a la agencia Fides, "por suerte, el martes era d铆a festivo y muchas escuelas y oficinas estaban cerradas, y sin duda, esto ha reducido el n煤mero de v铆ctimas". El sismo dej贸 m谩s de 90 muertos y cerca de 170 heridos.

"En Bohol, la ciudad m谩s afectada por el terremoto, hay muchas iglesias hist贸ricas que datan de hace m谩s de cuatro siglos. Muchas de estas iglesias han sido destruidas o gravemente da艅adas por el terremoto. En Ceb煤, la Bas铆lica del Santo Ni艅o, una iglesia hist贸rica y un importante centro de culto para el pueblo filipino, se ha visto da艅ada por el terremoto", a艅adi贸 el sacerdote.

La Congregaci贸n de los Redentoristas, informa el misionero, cuenta con una serie de casas en la zona, incluida la Casa Provincial, una iglesia grande, una comunidad y una casa de retiros. Seg煤n noticias recibidas por las comunidades locales, todos los miembros est谩n bien y en los edificios religiosos solo hay da艅os leves.

El P. Vieira dijo que "la mayor铆a de las v铆ctimas se encuentran en Bohol. Al terremoto le han seguido algunos temblores m谩s. Esto ha generado m谩s ansiedad y muchas personas han tenido que abandonar sus hogares". Los misioneros est谩n trabajando en la ayuda de emergencia y confortando a la poblaci贸n afectada.
