War in the Sahel? African Union deploys troops to combat Boko Haram
FREE Catholic Classes
Boko Haram, the Islamist group that has run rampant throughout Nigeria and its neighboring countries, may see an end to its power of avoiding reprisals for its deadly and horrid attacks, following news that Chad - the premier military power in Africa - is going on the offensive.

ALGIERS, ALGERIA (Catholic Online) - Chadian troops have joined with Nigerian and Cameroonian soldiers in the fighting against Boko Haram, blunting the group's offensive into the northern Nigerian city of Maiuguri.

Chad has entered into the war against Boko Haram most likely because of the groups recent forays across Nigeria's borders. Both Chad's parliament and president, Idreiss Deby, support this military operation.
Chad also intends to reconquer the city of Baga in Nigeria, which fell to Boko Haram earlier this year, on January 3. The city, which sits on the shores of Lake Chad, was lost following a bloody massacre in which about 2,000 people were executed by the the terrorist group.
While still largely contained to West Africa, Boko Haram is a threat to the security of the entire continent, something that the President of the African Union Commission, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma said during a speech at the African Union summit meeting.
February is a month for love and devotion.
The African Union's Council of Peace and Security met during the summit and hashed out an agreement to create a regional force of 7,500 men to fight Boko Haram.
Boko Haram has been terrorizing since 2009, and has had training camps in northeastern Mali since that time. Their war against westernization in Africa has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands, and many more have been displaced.
