Study reveals 218 million Americans drinking contaminated water.

Every town is Flint. That's the fear following a report on America's water quality. Many cities and towns have such poor, neglected water infrastructure that millions of Americans are already drinking poisonous water.

We ask you, humbly: don't scroll away.

LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - Millions of Americans are drinking toxic water. The situation in Flint, Michigan is the most notorious example, caused by systematic racism, sloth, and corruption. However, other water supplies across the nation are also tainted with deadly levels of toxic chemicals.

About 218 million Americans, a majority of the population, are drinking tainted water. Chances are 2 out of three, you are one of the victims and you don't even know it.

The most disconcerting chemical found in the water is chromim-6. This is the same chemical that Erin Brockovich protested against when she discovered a California power company was leaking it into tap water supplies.

All 50 states have locations where unsafe levels of this chemical are found in the water. Over 75 percent of the samples tested by a team of scientists contain chromium-6 levels above .02 parts be bullion, which is the minimum level deemed safe.

A person who drinks that level of chromium-6 would likely develop cancer after 70 years of exposure. Unfortunately, the vast majority of Americans are getting quite a bit more chromium-6 in their water than the .02 ppb.

The chemical has been observed causing tumors in the stomachs and intestines of lab rats.

Chromium-6 isn't the only contaminant in our water. A host of other chemicals are present in toxic levels. The Environmental Protection Agency is now preparing to find further studies. However, those studies are unlikely to bring good news. Neglected infrastructure, lax environmental protections, and decades of pollution have damaged water supplies for millions of people. Fracking and other industries are allegedly destroying water supplies too.

While the verdict is not yet definitive in the case of fracking, the practice continues. This is a risky endeavor because tainted water supplies are virtually impossible to clean. You cannot unfrack the deep rock and water supplies. The fracking industry correctly points out that their work occurs far below the water table, but opponents insist that water contamination is still occurring, somehow.

Cities must secure and protect their water supplies, and the EPA has a role in this as well. People must put water ahead of development, no matter how much development is desired. Once tainted, water supplies become undrinkable and the development that occurs cannot compensate for undrinkable water.

Water is a basic need and should be regarded as a basic human right. Anyone who neglects to maintain a clean water supply for their community endangers their family, their friends and themselves.
