Around the remote: Television picks for the week of June 22-28

"BET Awards '08" _ Once again the entertainment lineup for this rousing event is of the blow-the-roof-off-this-joint variety. Among the scheduled performers are Alicia Keys, Nelly, Kanye West, Usher, Ne-Yo, Chris Brown and Rihanna. Hosting the event, which honors black stars in television, movies, music and sports, is funny man D.L. Hughley. Among those feeling the love will be singer Al Green and show-biz bigwig Quincy Jones. The former will be honored with this year's Lifetime Achievement Award, and the latter will take home the Humanitarian Award. 8 p.m. Tuesday, BET.

SUNDAY: Inspector Lewis (Kevin Whatley) returns in a fresh offering of "Mystery!" The new case has our hero investigating the murder of an Oxford grad who turns up dead near a run-down houseboat. Things get complicated when the victim's former schoolmates refuse to talk. 9 p.m., PBS.

SUNDAY: Gorgeous women, jocks and action flicks. Yes, it's the second annual "Guy's Choice Awards," the show that supposedly caters to men with categories such as "Hottest Girl on the Planet." A tribute to Playboy founder Hugh Hefner is scheduled. 10 p.m., Spike TV.

MONDAY: "Hard Times at Douglass High: A No Child Left Behind Report Card" is a sobering new documentary that focuses on an inner-city Baltimore school where the brutal inequalities of American minority education are on full display. The filmmakers spent a year interviewing faculty and students. 9 p.m., HBO.

TUESDAY: Crashes, smashes and mud splashes. "Wipeout" is touted as a "painfully funny" new reality series. Brave contestants go head-to-head on a massive obstacle course designed to provide plenty of thrills and spills. 8 p.m., ABC.

TUESDAY: "I Survived a Japanese Game Show" is a crazed reality series that whisks 10 Americans _ many of whom who have never left the United States _ away to Tokyo to compete in a zany game show filled with ludicrous stunts. Why? For money and TV exposure, of course. 9 p.m., ABC.

WEDNESDAY: "The Baby Borrowers" is an offbeat reality series that puts teen couples on the parental fast-track by having them care for real infants and toddlers for a few days. But that's not all: By the end of the experiment, they're dealing with elderly live-ins. And suddenly, adulthood doesn't look so glorious. 9 p.m., NBC.

WEDNESDAY: One of Hollywood's standouts gets the royal treatment in "AFI Lifetime Achievement Award: A Tribute to Warren Beatty." Bill Clinton was on the VIP list for the pre-taped event, along with such stars as Jane Fonda, Jack Nicholson, Dustin Hoffman, Diane Keaton and Halle Berry. The gala features clips from Beatty's movies and taped tributes. 9 p.m., USA.

THURSDAY: "Hopkins" is a six-part follow-up to 2000's critically acclaimed "Hopkins 24/7," which took viewers on an up-close-and-personal tour of the prominent hospital. This documentary series promises to delve even deeper. Watch as life-and-death decisions are made on the fly. 10 p.m., ABC.

FRIDAY: A wide array of celebrities, including Sally Field, Janet Jackson, Kevin Bacon, Randy Jackson and Sharon Stone, turn out for the 19th annual GLAAD Media Awards. The event honors positive portrayals of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities in television, movies and print media. 7 p.m., Bravo.

FRIDAY: The fancy footwork just keeps on coming to prime time as "real people from all walks of life" attempt to bust a move on "Dance Machine." This new show revolves around a series of one-on one dance-offs to popular tunes. 8 p.m., ABC.

SATURDAY: The Summer Olympics aren't until August, but tonight offers a chance to get a look at some of the American athletes who will be there as Day 2 of the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials are held in Eugene, Ore. Tyson Gay and Lauryn Williams are among the top hopefuls. 8 p.m., NBC.
