What is going on in California?

The California recall election for that important state's governor is certain to attract non-stop media coverage. The early media exposure that actor Arnold Schwarzenegger has received has been nothing short of sensational. He will certainly be the darling of the media and the Hollywood elite, largely because his liberal support for abortion and homosexuality. Positions shared by a growing number of Republicans. This election may define or re-define the Republican Party in the United States. Republican candidates for public office have been featured to have it both ways for the past several years. That have received the Republican conservative block of votes, the anti-government vote, the libertarian vote, the Catholics, Independent vote, Evangelicans, even liberal pro-abortion and feminists votes. Bill Weld, Christy Todd Whitman, George Pitaki, Rudy Guilliani, just a small number of the increasing list of pro-choice Republicans.
The Democratic Party is the undisputed pro-abortion, pro-gay rights party, but the Republican Party has been quietly moving in that direction as well. So far they have not been called on it by pro-life, pro-family voters, but that is about to change. If the press does its job, voters will see how conservative Republican elected officials publicly declare that even their most important political objective is, to elect Republicans.
The question I have is, will pro life, pro-family Catholics tolerate this? Will they continue to support a Republican party that is talking out both sides of their mouth? Catholic voters have to reassess the changing political environment in the United States. Most African Americans vote as a block on issues reflecting them as a race, as Jewish voters do, as Feminists do. To their credit, they want to maximize their vote and political clout. Catholics now have to ask themselves, what is more important to them?
Be a good Republican, a good conservative or a good Catholic?
