I always have to shake my head when the pro-abortion mentality rears its ugly head. And it does so many times. Far too many times.

Readers might recall my article on Caron Strong, the post-abortive former actress who now is the national director of mobilization for the pro-life organization Operation Outcry. The article was subsequently posted on a couple of forums, and some of the comments on those forums were not exactly charitable toward Caron.

“The funny thing is, I was able to find humor in it,” said Caron. “I thought, ‘They can't even do a number on me more than I have done on myself!’”

I know what she means. I’ve been called an “idiot,” a “nutcase shill,” and a “crackpot” by those who seemingly don’t respect the moral law. But there is a kind of humor in it all. And we’re obviously striking a nerve.

A key aspect of the pro-abortion mentality, I submit, is this: If you’re a man and speak out against abortion, abortion supporters say, “How dare you speak out against abortion! Being a man, you can’t possibly know what it’s like to have to make such a decision!”

If you’re a woman who speaks out against abortion – and you’ve never had one – abortion-supporters say, “How dare you speak out against abortion! You have no right to impose your morality on other women!”

And if you’re a woman who’s had one or more abortions who now speaks out against it, abortion-supporters say, “How dare you speak out against abortion! Seeing that you’ve had x-number of abortions, you have no credibility!”

Despite this, Caron shows her Christian love toward the abortion-supporters.

“How much more do we as Christians need to extend the hand of mercy?” she asks rhetorically. “And how will they know we are Christians? By our love -- not our defensiveness or resentful backlashes.”
