Dominican University Presents Lecture with Cathleen Falsani

River Forest, IL (August 5, 2010) - Dominican University's Siena Center will present a lecture titled "Finding Sacred Space in Cyberspace" by Cathleen Falsani, award-winning religion columnist and contributing editor at Sojourners Magazine. The lecture will be held Wednesday, September 15 at 7:00 p.m. in the Priory Campus Auditorium, 7200 W. Division Street, River Forest.
Falsani will discuss the spiritual nourishment she has received from her involvement with a shared message board on Facebook. She initially signed up for a Facebook account out of curiosity, but after the death of a college friend, 20 fellow alumni joined a common thread on Facebook where they shared their lives, hopes, fears, struggles and joys together. Her story of how this experience enlivened her faith is shared in her latest book, The Thread: Rediscovering Faith and Friendship on Facebook.
For over ten years, Falsani was the religion writer for Chicago Sun-Times, earning the 2005 Religion Writer of the Year award from the Religion Newswriters Association. In 2006 she published her first book, The God Factor: Inside the Spiritual Lives of Public People, which features profiles of prominent individuals including Bono, Elie Wiesel, Anne Rice, Studs Terkel, Melissa Etheridge and David Lynch. Falsani is also the author of Sin Boldly: A Field Guide for Grace, a spiritual memoir published in 2008, and The Dude Abides: The Gospel According to the Coen Brothers, an examination of the spiritual undertones of all the Coen Brothers' films. Falsani is a columnist for the nationally syndicated Religion News Service, a columnist for Sojourners and a contributor to Huffington Post. Since 2004, she has been the author of a religion and culture blog, "The Dude Abides."
