Food For The Poor-Haiti Board Member Receives Humanitarian Award

COCONUT CREEK, FL (July 21, 2010) - Daniel-Gérard Rouzier, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Food For The Poor-Haiti, was honored as a Joe Jackson Industry Champion Award recipient by DuPont Performance Coatings at a business conference last month in Orlando. Rouzier was recognized for his selfless act to arrange and provide proper burials to an estimated 2,500 earthquake victims.

In late January, Rouzier and the world watched as CNN's Anderson Cooper reported that bodies were being trucked 45 minutes outside of Port-au-Prince to the city of Titanyen - where they were dumped and left to rot in the sun.

In two days, Rouzier and friends helped to restore dignity to the dead. Bishop Pierre-André Dumas performed the last rights, and American-born Passionist priest Father Richard Frechette sprinkled holy water over the graves and the bodies.

Rouzier, the head of a car dealership in Haiti, directed two front-end loaders to dig the graves, and commissioned his welding shop to manufacture five metal crosses to mark the cemetery. Upon accepting the award Rouzier shared moving details from the aftermath of the devastating earthquake.

"I am blessed to have been graced with this opportunity to serve in Jesus' Glorious Name," said Rouzier.

The Joe Jackson award is named after a well-respected DuPont colleague who made a powerful and lasting impression on everyone he knew. In addition to the award, DuPont will make a $5,000 contribution to Camp Mak-a-Dream and Food For The Poor-Haiti.
