KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS OPEN HOUSE AND 2010 MEMEBRSHIP DRIVE

•Open House on March 21, 2010 beginning at 3:00 P. M. St. Mary Immaculate Parish, Plainfield, Illinois
•Enrollment open to Catholic men age 18 and older
•Current members who are 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree Knights and 4th degree Sir Knights invited
•Members of other Councils who now attend St. Mary Immaculate are encouraged to attend and consider transfer

Plainfield, Illinois (March 12, 2010) - The Knights of Columbus Good Shepherd Council 5573 today announced an open house and 2010 membership drive starting on March 21, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. in the Faith Sharing and Harvester Rooms, St. Mary Immaculate Parish, 15629 S. Rte 59, Plainfield, Illinois. Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to practicing Catholic men age 18 and older.

"The Knights of Columbus is a family oriented Catholic organization that is over 120 years old dedicated to serving the Church and community," said Grand Knight Fred Kunst. "We support the world-wide Church and its teachings holding that all life is sacred from the womb to death. The Knights focus on the local community and perform works of service through volunteer activities and charitable donations. The foundation of the Knights of Columbus established over 120 years ago by Fr. Michael McGivney, is based on the values of charity, unity, fraternity, patriotism and service."

Current members of Good Shepherd Council are invited to attend. Knights who are members of other Councils and are now attending St. Mary Immaculate are encouraged to attend and transfer Councils. Good Shepherd Council also supports the Ladies Auxiliary comprised of the wife's, widows, and friends of Knights and The Squires, young Catholic boys between the ages of 10 and 17. Good Shepherd Council also sponsors Boy and Cub Scout Troops at St. Mary Immaculate.

"Most importantly, we support all the teachings of the Catholic Church and seek to live the gospel teachings of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ," said Kunst. "We have fun and raise money for worthwhile community charities of many faiths and enjoy a fraternalism that only comes with being a Knight."

The Knights of Columbus, Good Shepherd Council 5573, of St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Parish is a Catholic fraternal organization of over 400 members. Founded in 1964, the Knights, Squires and Ladies Auxiliary of Good Shepherd Council 5573 perform works of service to the community through volunteer activities and charitable donations, supports the worldwide Catholic Church and its teachings. It is a family oriented organization with a Ladies Auxiliary and The Squires program for young men in between the ages of 10 and 17 to learn the values of charity, unity, fraternity, patriotism and service. Above all, the Knights seek to enhance and live the gospel teachings of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Founded over 120 years ago by Fr. Michael McGivney, Knights all over the world support his canonization to Sainthood.
