SPRING GROVE, PA (October 16, 2009) - “If a young officer or Marine ever asks what the meaning of Semper Fidelis is,” Col. Ripley once told a friend, “tell them my story.”
Exactly one year after America mourned the passing of Col. Ripley, America will be given the chance to celebrate and honor his life with the launching of a new book: “An American Knight: The Life of Colonel John W. Ripley USMC,” now available online.

With attention focused on the sacrifices made by our military currently deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq, it is more important than ever to remember American heroes who set an example. In this first cradle-to-grave biography of Col. Ripley, author Norman Fulkerson tells the extraordinary story of a Marine Corps legend; the selfless leader of combat troops and embodiment of “Semper Fi.”
This book will inspire and instill a sense of purpose in a generation seeking honor and meaning.
Medal of Honor recipient Col. Wesley Fox calls it a “must read” for all “desiring to be a leader, especially those desiring to lead Marines.”
Gen. Carl E. Mundy, 30th Commandant of the Marine Corps, says “An American Knight” is a “fine book which provides well-deserved tribute to a great man.”
Most people know only John Ripley the warrior, now they will know Ripley the husband, father, mentor and friend.
The book will be released on October 28, the first anniversary of this great heroes’ death. While America mourns the passing of this Marine Corps legend, “An American Knight” will allow us to do as General George Patton counseled: “Thank God that such a man lived.”

Comments
Col. Ripley's family is very unhappy with this book. They feel that Mr. Fulkerson has used their father's name to further his own political agenda.
