JOIN US FOR "THE POPES AND THE ORDER OF CULTURE FROM LEO XIII TO BENEDICT XVI" A LECTURE BY AVERY CARDINAL DULLES, S.J.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Avery Cardinal Dulles, S.J., Laurence J. McGinley Professor of Religion and Society at Fordham University, will discuss "The Popes and the Order of Culture from Leo XII to Benedict XVI" on Thursday, January 26, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Jubilee Hall. All are welcome and admission is free.

Internationally renowned theologian and convert to Catholicism, Cardinal Dulles is the author of 700 articles and 22 books, including his 1974 work, Models of the Church, and his recent book on Venerable John Henry Cardinal Newman, titled, Newman. He is the grandson of a Presbyterian minister, and the son of John Foster Dulles, the former Secretary of State under President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Cardinal Dulles holds 28 honorary doctorates, and has an impressive array of scholarly awards. A graduate of Harvard, he served in the United States Navy, following which he entered the Jesuit Order. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1956 by Frances Cardinal Spellman.

Cardinal Dulles received a doctorate in Sacred Theology in 1960, and was installed as Cardinal in Rome on February 21, 2001, by Pope John Paul II. He has served on the faculty of both The Catholic University of America and Georgetown University's Woodstock College.

Cardinal Dulles has also been a visiting professor at such universities and seminaries as, among many, The Gregorian University, Union Theological Seminary, Princeton Theological Seminary, Campion Hall (Oxford University), Boston College, Yale University, The University of Nortre Dame and St Joseph's Seminary.

Cardinal Dulles is the past president of both the Catholic Theological Society of American and The American Theological Society.

Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology (ICSST) is the graduate school of theology of Seton Hall University and the major seminary of the Catholic Archdiocese of Newark. ICSST admits both seminarians studying for the Catholic priesthood and lay students.

Founded in 1861, the Seminary offers men preparing for priesthood the personal, academic, ministerial and spiritual formation essential for conversion to Jesus Christ and their commitment to a life of service to the Church. As a graduate school of theology, the Seminary provides a theological foundation and a pastoral and spiritual formation for men and women preparing for ministries among the people of God, and a theological foundation for men and women desiring to pursue doctoral studies and varied opportunities for continuing theological education.
