Walsh University Honors Winners in Catholic Schools Week National Photo Contest
Second Annual Contest Grows Dramatically with Double the Submissions from 2013

North Canton, OH (June 9, 2014) - Walsh University is pleased to announce that Mark Latuska, a freshman at DuBois Central Catholic High School, DuBois, PA, is the winner of the Second Annual Catholic Schools Week Photo Contest.

This year's national competition grew dramatically and attracted more than double the number of photo submissions from the inaugural 2013 contest. In total, Walsh received 310 entries from more than 45 Catholic high schools in seven states, including Ohio, Indiana, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Massachusetts. Winning entries and contest submissions are available on the Walsh University website at .

The three winners were selected by a panel of judges for their photos submissions that best embraced the spirit of the 2014 Catholic Schools Week theme "Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service."

On Friday, May 16, the winning photographer, Mark Latuska, and his school, DuBois Central Catholic High School in DuBois, PA, were each presented with a $500 check from Walsh University. In addition, Latuska's photo will be featured in the Walsh University 2015 marketing campaign celebrating Catholic Schools Week. Mark Latuska is active at DuBois Central Catholic High School as a member of the football team, basketball team and the Rotary Interact Club.

"I was very much surprised to win this contest, let alone get first place," said Latuska. "Out of all of the entries, I'm humbled they picked mine because I put a lot of work and thought into the picture. It just goes to show that you should always put forth the effort and try something new because you never know what you could gain from it."

Two runners-up received a $250 prize each, with second place awarded to Gabrielle Caruso, also a freshman from DuBois Central Catholic High School, and third place to Danielle Ventus, a senior at St. Rita's School for the Deaf in Cincinnati, OH.
