The CatholicTV Network to Broadcast Mass of Thanksgiving for the Canonization of Pope Saint John XXIII and Pope Saint John Paul II

WATERTOWN, MA (May 5, 2014) The CatholicTV Network will broadcast the Mass of Thanksgiving for the Canonization of Saint Pope John XXIII and Saint Pope John Paul II from the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception live at 12PM ET on May 11, 2014.

Cardinal Donald Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington will be principal celebrant and Archbishop Vigano, the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, along with bishops from around the United States will concelebrate the Mass which will be held in the Basilica’s Great Upper Church.

At the conclusion of Mass, the congregation will be led in procession from the Basilica to the Saint JPII National Shrine where all will pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet. The Mass, procession, and Divine Mercy Chaplet will rebroadcast on CatholicTV and CatholicTV.com at 8PM.

Over 800,000 pilgrims gathered in Rome to witness the canonizations of Pope Saint John XXIII and Pope Saint John Paul II on April 27, 2014. Pope Saint John Paul II served as pope from 1978 to 2005 and was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI on Divine Mercy Sunday, May 1, 2011. Pope Saint John XXIII was pope from 1958 to 1963; Blessed John Paul II beatified him in 2000.

The CatholicTV Network will air the Mass of Thanksgiving for the Canonization of Pope Saint John XXIII and Pope Saint John Paul II on CatholicTV and CatholicTV.com. CatholicTV, in partnership with Boston University’s College of Communication (COM), traveled to Rome for the canonizations. Portions of that coverage will air in conjunction with the Mass of Thanksgiving from our nation’s capital.
