The CatholicTV Network to Provide Canonization Coverage

WATERTOWN, MA (April 16, 2014) The CatholicTV Network to provide coverage of the upcoming canonizations of Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII, with a full week of programming dedicated to the historic proceedings and live coverage of the Canonization Mass in Rome.

John XXIII and John Paul II will be raised to Sainthood on April 27, 2014, the day on which the Church celebrates the Second Sunday of Easter and Divine Mercy. Blessed John Paul II served as pope from 1978 to 2005 and was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI on Divine Mercy Sunday, May 1, 2011. Blessed John XXIII was pope from 1958 to 1963; Blessed John Paul II beatified him in 2000.

Highlights for the week will include:

Vatican II: Inside the Council
This new series comes to CatholicTV from New Evangelization Television (NET). It focuses on the history of Vatican II and seeks to educate, enlighten, and entertain viewers.
Airs: Monday at 6PM ET, Saturday at 11PM

John Paul II: The Man, The Pope, and His Message
This series offers an in-depth view of the life of Pope John Paul II. Alberto Michelini, renowned Italian journalist, produced this series with special footage from the Vatican.
Airs: Monday at 2AM, Thursday at 8PM

Women of the Church
CatholicTV airs documentaries and films that feature the role of women in the church. During the month of April, each woman featured was beatified by Pope John Paul II.
Airs: Sunday at 8:30AM, Wednesday at 8:30PM

Saturday April 26, 2014
From 7:30PM to 11:30Pm, CatholicTV will air a series of documentaries on Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII.

Sunday April 27, 2014
Pope Francis will celebrate the first Mass of Canonization of his pontificate in Saint Peter’s Square. The Mass airs LIVE at 4AM and rebroadcasts at 11AM and 8PM ET.

The CatholicTV Network will air coverage on CatholicTV and CatholicTV.com. CatholicTV, in partnership with Boston University’s College of Communication (COM), will provide international coverage of the canonizations of John XXIII and John Paul II as well. Updates will be broadcast throughout the week of April 21-27.
