Waltham, MA (December 5, 2012) - As the season of Advent has started, LaVallee's Fasting Breads wishes to raise the awareness of prayer and fasting during this rich liturgical time of waiting for Christ the King.

"Christmas is a time of giving--sure you have heard that before," said Andy LaVallee, founder of the new company.

"How about fasting for the Advent season to put ourselves closer to the poor and contribute the revenue we would have normally spent if we were not fasting? This is a real connection to God and his coming to us at Christmas," he continued.

One way the company is bringing focus to the season is by offering "fasting kits" on their website for purchase. The kits contain 36 assorted fasting rolls and the book "Fast with the Heart" by Father Slavko Barbaric, a late priest who ministered in Medjugorje, Bosnia and Herzegovina known for his guidance in prayer and fasting.

Along with the breads, people who order the kits are sent encouraging and educational emails before the traditional fasting days of Wednesday and Friday in the seasons suitable for fasting: Advent, Lent and Ordinary time.

The group also recently sponsored an Advent fasting retreat called "Prepare the Way for the King," where nearly 100 people showed up on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The retreat featured speakers Mother Olga of the Sacred Heart and Father Matt Williams of the Archdiocese of Boston and also had Eucharistic Adoration, confessions and the Saturday evening Vigil Mass.
