Al-Qaeda movement, similar to activity prior to 9/11 attacks, spark concern in the United States

'Al Qaeda has attempted to rebuild its support networks and planning capabilities with the intention of reconstituting its strike capabilities against the US homeland and Western interests'

Reports of Al-Qaeda erecting new training camps spark fear of another attack. Al-Qaeda produced training camps prior to the 9/11 attacks, prompting many to believe a second calculated terror attack is imminent.

Highlights

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The New York Times reported the Pentagon and American intelligence agencies are working to determine whether another United States attack will be coming our way.

None of the camps are as large as the one Osama bin Laden built prior to 9/11 and American officials stated they are not listed as the most urgent on the Pentagon's list in Afghanistan.

America has been partially focused on targeting the remaining senior Al-Qaeda leaders who have been hiding in Afghanistan's mountainous border it shares with Pakistan.

Since the discovery of the training camps, the Obama administration has yet to announce plans to change their strategy or to confront the threat. However, former administration officials, particularly those who took part in the original battle to eliminate Al-Qaeda's central leadership, have spoken out.

Michael Morell, former deputy director of the CIA and author of "The Great War of Our Time," stated, "I do worry about the rebirth of AQ in Afghanistan because of what their target list will be - us. It is why we need to worry about the resurgence of the Taliban because, just like before, the Taliban will give Al Qaeda a safe haven."

One senior administration official believes increased Al-Qaeda activity is the result of Pakistani military operations pushing fighters into Afghanistan more so than Al-Qaeda enlisting new recruits.

Daily Mail reports General John Campbell told Congress two months ago that Afghan security forces "have thus far proven unable to eradicate Al Qaeda entirely.

"Al Qaeda has attempted to rebuild its support networks and planning capabilities with the intention of reconstituting its strike capabilities against the US homeland and Western interests.

Does the resurgence of Al-Qaeda training camps mean another attack on the United States? Unless the camps are destroyed, only time will tell.
