El Metropolita sirio ortodoxo de Homs y Hama, Selwanos Boutros Alnemeh, denunció la massacre de 45 cristianos en la ciudad siria de Sadad a manos de milicias islamistas antes de que esta fuera recuperada por el ejército.

ROMA (ACI/EWTN Noticias) - "Lo que ocurrió en Sadad es la masacre de cristianos más grave y más grande que tuvo lugar en Siria desde hace dos años y medio" expresó a la agencia Fides al momento ilustrando el trágico balance de víctimas mortales en esta pequeña ciudad cristiana. "Los civiles inocentes fueron martirizados sin ninguna razón, son 45, entre ellos varias mujeres y niños, muchos arrojados a fosas comunes. Otros civiles han sido amenazados y aterrorizados", denunció.

Los heridos son 30 y las personas desaparecidas siguen siendo 10. Durante una semana, 1.500 familias fueron mantenidas como rehenes y escudos humanos. Entre ellos niños, ancianos, jóvenes, hombres y mujeres. Algunos de ellos huyeron a pie recorriendo los 8 km de Sadad a Al-Hafer para encontrar refugio. Alrededor de 2.500 familias huyeron de Sadad, llevando sólo la ropa que tenían puesta, debido a la irrupción de los grupos armados y hoy son refugiados dispersos entre Damasco, Homs, Fayrouza, Zaydal, Maskane y Al-Fhayle".

"La ciudad carece por completo de electricidad, agua y teléfono. En todas las casas de Sadad se ha robado y saqueado. Las iglesias están dañadas y profanadas, privadas de libros antiguos y muebles preciosos, manchadas con escritos en contra del cristianismo. Las escuelas, edificios gubernamentales, edificios municipales han sido destruídos, junto con la oficina de correos, el hospital y la clínica. A los niños de Sadad se les ha robado el futuro. Muchos hogares no podrán ser reconstruidos", denunció.

"Hemos gritado pidiendo ayuda al mundo entero, pero nadie nos ha escuchado. ¿Dónde está la conciencia cristiana? ¿Dónde está la conciencia humana? ¿Dónde están mis hermanos? Pienso en todos los que están sufriendo hoy el luto y el dolor: Tengo un nudo en la garganta y me duele el corazón por lo que ha pasado en mi arquidiócesis. ¿Cuál será nuestro futuro? Pedimos a todos que oren por nosotros".

La ciudad de Sadad, asentamiento cristiano, fue invadido y ocupado por las milicias islamitas el 21 de octubre y reconquistada en los últimos días por el ejército regular de Siria. Los representantes del Patriarcado y de las familias de las víctimas, que han regresado a la ciudad, han encontrado, para su horror, dos fosas comunes, donde estaban los cuerpos de sus familiares y amigos.

Según testigos, muchos de los civiles fueron asesinados por milicianos de las bandas "Al-Nusra Front" y "Daash" mientras trataban de escapar o de salvarse. La ciudad está completamente destruida y saqueada. Algunos de los militantes que invadieron la ciudad se habían refugiado en la Iglesia siro ortodoxa de San Teodoro, que ha sido profanada.

Sadad es un antiguo pueblo sirio que data del año 2000 a.C., situado en la región de Qalamoon, al norte de Damasco, con sus iglesias, templos, iconos históricos y sitios arqueológicos. Tiene 15.000 pobladores, siendo la mayoría cristianos.
