'A tiny bit of me regrets being a puppy because I lost what I had.'

In what most claim is a non-sexual "dog play," human pups have become the latest rage to spread across the UK - so much so that a new documentary will reveal the inner workings of the human pups' lives.

Highlights

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - According to Channel 4, the new documentary featuring the "human pups," titled "The Secret Life of Human Pups" is:

"A remarkable behind-the-scenes look at the hidden world of human pups: a secretive subculture of men who dress and behave like dogs. Why do they covet doggy treats, belly rubs and squeaky toys?

According to the Mr. Puppy UK website, pups and their handlers compete to "shine on the national stage" to see "who would best represent the UK pop community."

Zentai Spot, real name Tom, is the current title holder and will be featured in the upcoming documentary dressed in his rubber dalmatian suit.

The costume cost somewhere between six and 10,000 euros and comes complete with a body suit, paws, a hood and breathing tube.

In the documentary, "Spot" explains, "It is quite awkward to put on, you need a lot of talc."

Oxford graduate and human pup "Kye" claims the need to wear dog outfits is a lifestyle choice and added, "Puppy play is definitely not about sex, it is a form of escapism."

The documentary claims over 10,000 UK followers are into the puppy play, with the majority of the human pups being adult men.

"Females who are into pet play are usually into kitten play as they identify more with kittens than pups," Kye explained.

As many critics have suggested, the widespread acceptance of unnatural lifestyles has led to the human pups, who will dress in their dog costumes and take walks at the park with their handlers, competing in dog shows of their own and even sleeping in training crates complete with puppy pads.

Today, transgendered people demand to be seen and heard but perhaps human pups are next.

Though the human pup community believes it is a transformative, magical experience, many have received their doggy tags at high prices.

Tom, who has been part of the human pup community for the past decade, admitted he lost his fiance, Rachel, when he decided to become Spot.

"I didn't understand it," Rachel admitted. "I didn't want to understand it then."

Tom admitted losing Rachel was difficult but his desire to become Spot was more important than his relationship. Though Rachel was upset, the two decided to remain friends.

"A tiny bit of me regrets being a puppy because I lost what I had," Tom shared. "Rachel thought I was becoming gay. ... [But y]ou disappear and start chasing puppy toys. You go so deep into the head space, you crave it and want it. It's just magic."

To take a closer look into the lives of human pups, tune in to Channel 4 on Wednesday at 10pm.
