'[T]he desire to always innovate in his work has been relfected in love by the faithful...'

Fr. Joaquin Hernandez Sifuentes was a parish priest in the northern state of Coahuila, Mexico.

Many priests in Mexico receive funerals with empty coffins as their bodies are usually discovered too late to be preserved.

Highlights

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - On Thursday, Catholic.org asked for prayers to see his safe return but the Lord had other plans.

Father Sifuentes was missing over a week ago under mysterious circumstances but the Coahuila state Prosecutor's Office released a statement, saying the priest's body was discovered near Parras de Fuente.

Fr. Sifuentes' missing vehicle was discovered in Santa Catarina, in the neighboring state of Nuevo Leon and  authorities continue to investigate the details.

The diocese said: "Fr. Joaquin was someone who looked for perfection in everything he did; the desire to always innovate in his work has been reflected in love by the faithful, including during the past 10 days."

They have yet to release further comments.

Prayer for the Dead

God our Father,
Your power brings us to birth,
Your providence guides our lives,
and by Your command we return to dust.

Lord, those who die still live in Your presence,
their lives change but do not end.
I pray in hope for my family,
relatives and friends,
and for all the dead known to You alone.

In company with Christ,
Who died and now lives,
may they rejoice in Your kingdom,
where all our tears are wiped away.
Unite us together again in one family,
to sing Your praise forever and ever.

Amen.
