LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Pope Francis explained in his morning homily, aptly delivered a day before Halloween, that the devil is real and he "is not tossing flowers at us," instead "flaming arrows" to kill us. Pope Francis explained that the devil was one of three "enemies of Christian Life" with the other two being the world and the flesh.

Pope Francis, a man who recently said that the Big bang and Evolution were possible theories for the explanation of the universe and life, also said that the devil is not a myth. He criticized skeptics who were included to think otherwise. ".This generation and many others, made people think that the devil was a myth, a character, and idea, the concept of evil. The devil exists and we have to fight against him."

Arm yourself with the armor of God. Embrace His word today!

Pope Francis reminded listeners that Paul spoke of the devil in his letter to the Ephesians. Jesus was also tempted by the devil and resisted him. Pope Francis admitted that people can be lazy and that this is natural, but it causes us to lower our defenses against the temptations of the devil and the world.

"However, do not be discouraged; courage and strength because the Lord is with us!"

Christians should protect themselves with the "armor of God - the truth."

He then quoted St. Paul, saying "girded in truth, clothed with righteousness as a breastplate, and your feet shod in readiness for the Gospel of peace. Hold faith as a shield [and] the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God."

Pope Francis also said that constant prayer was essential. He warned that it is impossible to be Christian without constantly working at being righteous.

"Christian life is a battle" Pope Francis added, "a very beautiful battle because when the Lord wins at every step of our life, He gives us a joy, a great happiness, that joy that the Lord has won in us."
