The spiritual life is a double movement, away from sin and towards God. Fr. Maximilian comments on today's Gospel and reminds us that we are spiritual lepers, and that it is in Confession that we hear Our Lord say, like He did to the leper, "I Will It, Be Made Clean." But that is not enough, we also need to follow the Lord's example, withdraw, and pray. After all, the cleansing of sin is only the prelude to the deep, loving union with God we are all called to.
