This lovely Marian hymn owes it's text to a 12th century poem of St Bernard. Mary is our eternal mother, drawing us closer to God through Jesus. My mother passed away last week and I played this at her funeral. Some days when awareness was all but lost I would take out my rosary and put it in her hands,she always began to pray aloud right away. Her speach was quiet and perfect in prayer. What a beautiful gift we have in the Blessed Virgin. I feel sorry for those who think that Catholics worship Mary, or images and statues of her. They lose so much by conjuring up fictional theology, or they listen to many a lost Catholic who do not understand their own doctrine. Hardness of heart keeps them from knowing a mother who's love is beyond comprehension. I still have such vivid mental images of my maternal grandmother meditating on the mysteries of Christ though the rosary. Perhaps even more touching are the memories of my paternal grandmother, not Catholic , who had a significant devotion to Mary and prayed the rosary daily. In those days many Protestants had no fear of showing their love for the Virgin. Satan hates the rosary and works hard to keep us from Mary. After all it was her yes to God that set in motion his defeat at the hands of her son Jesus Daily, daily sing to Mary, Sing, my soul, her praises due. All her feasts, her actions worship With the heart's devotion true. Lost in wond'ring contemplation, Be her Majesty confess'd. Call her Mother, call her Virgin, Happy Mother, Virgin blest She is mighty to deliver. Call her, trust her lovingly. When the tempest rages round thee, She will calm the troubled sea. Gifts of heaven she has given, Noble Lady, to our race. She, the Queen, who decks her subjects With the light of God's own grace Sing, my tongue, the Virgin's trophies Who for us her Maker bore. For the curse of old inflicted, Peace and blessing to restore. Sing in songs of peace unending, Sing the world's majestic Queen. Weary not nor faint in telling. All the gifts she gives to men
