IPS Alumnus Establishing Catholic Therapy Practice With Ruah Woods

Arlington, VA (March 30, 2011) - The Institute for the Psychological Science (IPS) is pleased to announce IPS alumnus Dr. Andrew Sodergren, Psy.D., has been selected to establish a Catholic therapy practice with Ruah Woods, a Catholic ministry in Cincinnati, OH, dedicated to restoring families and renewing the culture.

Said IPS President, Fr. Charles Sikorsky, "After almost 3 years of working with Ruah Woods on this exciting project, an agreement has been reached for one of our graduates to open a clinic based on the IPS model of integrating sound psychology with the Catholic understanding of the person, marriage and the family."

Under the direction of Dr. Sodergren, Psy.D. (2009), the future Cincinnati clinic will provide mental health services to the archdiocese and seminary, parishes, schools, and the broader community.

"I am grateful to Ruah Woods for the opportunity to continue serving Christ and His Church through my work as a psychologist. I look forward to joining their ministry of healing the culture," stated Dr. Sodergren.

Ruah Woods Executive Director Leslie Kuhlman noted the addition of Dr. Sodergren will fill a need in their community to provide counseling services integrated with the Catholic faith and the Church's view of the human person. Added Ms. Kuhlman, "He will be a welcome resource."

Prior to accepting the position with Ruah Woods, Dr. Sodergren worked as a psychologist with Catholic Social Services (CSS) in Lincoln, Nebraska where he provided psychotherapy, assessment, consultation, teaching and public outreach.

Dr. Sodergren also assists in team-teaching courses in Psychological and Neurological Sciences at the John Paul II Institute in Washington, DC, where he received a Master's Degree in Theology. In addition, Dr. Sodergren has given presentations at the Catholic Psychotherapy Conference and the Society of Catholic Social Scientists on integration topics.

Concluded Fr. Sikorksy, "We hope this will serve as a model for more clinics in many other cities in the future. This should be a great encouragement to the entire IPS community."

Founded in 1999 in Arlington, VA, IPS is a Catholic graduate school of psychology offering master's and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology, and a master's degree in general psychology.

The Institute's distinctive curriculum integrates the science of psychology with insights about the human person from theology and philosophy. At IPS, students are trained to use this integrated approach, along with empirical methods, for comprehensive assessment and therapeutic intervention.
