2011 NYC Mercy Mission at Basicial of Old St. Patrick's Cathedral

New York, NY (March 22, 2011) - The Basilica of Saint Patrick's Old Cathedral and the Legionaries of Christ are pleased to announce their New York City Holy Week Mission for 2011.

"2011 NYC MERCY MISSION" will take place beginning on Palm Sunday April 17, 2011 and ending on Saturday with the Easter Vigil Mass on April 23, 2011. The event will incorporate delivering meals to the homebound in Manhattan, a Midnight Run, as well as spiritually-oriented youth activities. Missionaries will also be walking the "highways and byways" of NoLiTa/SoHo/Little Italy to promote the Holy Week services at the Basilica of Saint Patrick's Old Cathedral. Confessions will be heard continuously throughout the week at the Basilica, along with the Holy Triduum services, a Way of the Cross through Little Italy, special talks by Legionary priests, and a "Basilica Café" planned for Holy Saturday. The Basilica of Saint Patrick's Old Cathedral is located at the corner of Spring and Mott Street, New York, NY in historic NoLiTa.

"This mission will proclaim Christ to the people of New York City, particularly to those in the NoLitTa neighborhood. Our missionaries will bring the love of God to those who have forgotten about Him," says Fr Michael Brisson, LC, one of the organizers of the mission.
"We are all joyfully awaiting the arrival of the Regnum Christi missionaries to our parish," says Monsignor Donald Sakano, pastor of the Basilica of Saint Patrick's Old Cathedral. "This is our third year of hosting the mission for New York City, and the impact on the neighborhood and our parish has been wonderful to behold."
