Pastoral Seminar: Psychology Serving Marriage & Family

Arlington, VA (April 24, 2009) - The Institute for the Psychological Sciences (IPS), a distinct Catholic graduate school of psychology, in conjunction with ePriest.com, is sponsoring the IPS Pastoral Seminar: Psychology Serving Marriage & Family from August 4 - 6, 2009.
The 3-day, comprehensive seminar features renowned speakers in the fields of psychology and pastoral ministry who will share their timely and valuable expertise. The seminar is designed specifically for priests, deacons, religious, and laity who provide spiritual guidance and counseling.
"We've created this intensive seminar to meet the needs of clergy as they strengthen today's embattled families," said IPS President Fr. Charles Sikorsky, L.C., J.D., J.C.L.
A sampling of topics include marriage preparation; counseling distressed couples; character formation in the family; helping youth develop chastity; biological and psychological underpinnings of addiction; identifying common sexual compulsions; aging with grace; and the role of the psychologist in the tribunal annulment process. Auxilliary Bishop Martin Holley from the Archdiocese of Washington, DC is the keynote speaker. His address, Is There a Need for Exorcism Today? will be given during dinner on Tuesday, August 4.
IPS faculty members participating in the seminar include: Dr. Frank Moncher, Dr. William Nordling, Dr. James Giordano, Dr. Philip Scrofani, and IPS President Fr. Charles Sikorsky. In addition, Dr. Thomas Likona, Sr. Prudence Allen, R.S.M., Ph.D., Art Bennett, M.A., and Director of the Center for Family Development Fr. John Hopkins, L.C. are presenting talks.
The Center for Family Development in Bethesda, MD is hosting the pastoral seminar. Lodging and accommodations are available at the center for male registrants. Offsite lodging is available for female registrants. Special early-bird savings are available until May 15. Final deadline registration is July 24.

Founded in 1999 in Arlington, VA, IPS is a Catholic graduate school of psychology offering master and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology, and a master's degree in general psychology.
The Institute's unique curriculum integrates the science of psychology with insights about the human person from theology and philosophy. IPS is training its students to use this integrated approach along with empirical methods for comprehensive assessment and therapeutic intervention.
