Has Warren betrayed progressives? Senator endorses Clinton, suggests herself as possible VP pick

Some Sanders supporters vow to never vote for Clinton.

Elizabeth Warren has endorsed Hillary Clinton, and suggested she is interested in serving as her running mate. Warren has long been seen as a female version of Bernie Sanders, but this morning his most ardent supporters are upset with her.

LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - Senator Elizabeth Warren appeared on MSNBC with Rachel Maddow and endorsed Hillary Clinton. When asked if she thought she could serve as Clinton's running mate, she replied, "Yes I do."

She then proceeded to attack Donald Trump, claiming that Trump maintained his fortune by cheating people and calling him "thin skinned."

Warren's nomination of Clinton was just the latest in a series of Democratic endorsements with the most prominent being the one from Barack Obama. President Obama endorsed Clinton on Thursday, saying he has seen her judgment and her toughness.

Some supporters of Bernie Sanders, who have traditionally supported Elizabeth Warren, seeing her as a female version of the Vermont Senator, lashed out in anger. They see the endorsements from Obama and Warren as an attempt to shut down Sander's campaign early. They also view her endorsement as capitulation, possibly for political gain. They have asked people to unlike her page on Facebook, which has lost thousands of "likes" in the past several hours.

Contrary to popular belief, Hillary Clinton has not won the Democratic nomination. She remain over 500 pledged delegates shy of the total she needs to win. Instead, it is projected she will win at the Democratic convention in July, which will be contested. She will win on the basis of superdelegate votes. Most of the party's superdelegates have pledged to vote for Clinton. However, they have not voted yet.

And a lot can happen between now and the convention in late July. It is possible something can happen that makes Clinton even more ujnelectable and the superdelegates can change their support to Sanders.

Of course, Sanders himself appears to be capitulating. While he has vowed to continue the fight until the convention, and he is campaigning in Washington D.C., which holds a final primary on Tuesday, the senator is closing offices and laying off staff. Sanders met with Obama prior to his endorsement of Clinton. Sanders has said he will support Clinton in the general election if she is the nominee.

Sanders has come out against Trump, and has asked his supporters to dedicate themselves to defeating the business mogul, no matter who the Democratic nominee is.

Hillary Clinton has not yet dropped any names for potential running mates. It is believed that if she chooses Warren, the decision could entice upset Sanders supporters to support her in the election.

Right now, many Sanders supporters are prepared to vote for Trump over Clinton, and others will still write in Sanders in November. Another group is expected to still vote for whomever the Democratic nominee is.
