The Islamic State's threat of violence towards U.S. service members is being taken very seriously by U.S. military officials, who have issued a warning to troops that instructs them to hide all information about them or their families on public accessible sites, which terrorists may use to target them.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - In a memo released to service members from U.S. Northern Command, they advised that use of "military slang" in public as well as having one's house in military decoration may make that person a target for Islamic State fighters or those sympathetic to the group's cause.
Give the gift of love and wisdom to a friend or loved one today.
This memo was a reaction to the Islamic State's release of the names of 100 U.S. service members earlier this month.
"These organizations are attempting to use our own personal information against us to create fear and anxiety among our ranks and within our families," the memo said.
"We all have a responsibility to protect ourselves and our fellow service members and their families. We must reduce our vulnerabilities through active and vigilant monitoring of the information provided via the Internet and social media sources."
The military will also be issuing cards with guides on how to be safe on social media.
Part of these recommendations instruct service members to: "Minimize your profile by blending into the local community," and "Do not share private information such as where your children go to school . or other information that allows someone to track your routines and possibly guess where you or your family might be."
The memo also gave orders to public affairs officers who may have to answer questions about the Islamic State and the reality of their threat to troops at home.
"Threats such as this are typical of [the Islamic State], illustrating their viciousness and desperation," it said. "These actions will not affect our resolve in this fight against [the Islamic State]."
