LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Alan Henning has been executed by the Islamic State. Henning was a British aid worker who traveled to Syria to help refugees and those displaced by the violence there. However, he was kidnapped and threatened with execution once the British government sided with the Obama administration on airstrikes.

The video cites British news coverage during which the government approved strikes against the Islamic State. Henning delivered a short quote, blaming parliament for his pending execution. This is unusual because typically the victims are required to deliver a statement in which they blame their governments for their death and admonish others to refrain from supporting military efforts.
Jihadi John's statement was also brief.
In another departure from the norm, the video showed the first cut into Henning's neck, which in previous videos was not shown, causing many to claim the scenes were staged. Although no blood was visible in the fraction of a second that the killing started, Henning cried in pain as the knife cut his skin.
A final scene shows Henning's decapitated head and body in a pool of blood.
The next threatened victim is Peter Edward Kassig, an American.
