El embajador de Palestina en España, Musa Amer Odeh, se ha ofrecido este martes como rehén para lograr la liberación de doce religiosas greco-ortodoxas de la ciudad cristiana de Malula, en el sur de Siria, que están retenidas al norte de esta localidad.

MADRID (ACI/Europa Press) - Amer ha manifestado su preocupación por las religiosas retenidas "no como político sino como humano", durante un encuentro con la prensa en la sede de la legación diplomática. Asimismo, ha hecho un llamamiento a los secuestradores, "sin saber quiénes son, de qué partido o de qué religión", para que salven sus vidas y "cuiden su dignidad".

"No he podido dormir desde que me enteré de la noticia", ha manifestado el embajador. "No existe ninguna religión en el mundo que permita el secuestro de monjas que ayudan a los más necesitados", ha añadido.

Asimismo, Amer ha asegurado que, "como representante de la Tierra Santa", está a disposición de las monjas secuestradas. "Estoy dispuesto a trasladarme a Siria y a intercambiarme con ellas: que me lleven a mí como rehén", ha afirmado.

Combatientes islamistas del Frente al Nusra, vinculado a Al Qaeda, tomaron este lunes el casco antiguo de Malula después de luchar contra las fuerzas leales al presidente sirio, Bashar al Assad. El embajador de la Santa Sede, Mario Zenari, afirmó que las monjas habían sido trasladadas a una localidad a 20 kilómetros al norte, aunque no ha confirmado si se trata de un secuestro o de una evacuación.

"Quiero que mi voz llegue a los secuestradores", ha explicado. "Estoy dispuesto a intercambiarme por ellas para abrir un camino hacia el encuentro en medio de un absurdo conflicto lleno de sangre, odio y destrucción", ha añadido.

El embajador ha aprovechado para pedir la liberación de otros dos obispos ortodoxos secuestrados el pasado mes de abril en la ciudad de Alepo. "En Palestina tenemos debilidad por aquellos que se sacrifican por los más necesitados, porque nosotros sabemos qué es lo que significa", ha explicado Amer.

Durante el encuentro, el representante palestino también ha instado a Siria a que libere a todos los menores de edad y a las mujeres retenidos durante el conflicto. Asimismo, ha aprovechado la ocasión para pedir al Gobierno israelí que haga lo mismo con los cerca 350 menores palestinos que se encuentran detenidos en sus prisiones.
