Bruni added that the pope is maintaining a regular diet, receiving the Eucharist daily, and has started working from the hospital. On Sunday, Pope Francis watched the televised Sunday Mass, received the Eucharist in his hospital room, prayed the Angelus in the chapel of the papal medical suite, and shared a meal with some hospital staff.

The 86-year-old pontiff is expected to remain in Rome's Gemelli hospital for another week to continue his recovery. Consequently, all of the pope's scheduled audiences have been canceled until June 18.

Despite being hospitalized, Pope Francis has been actively engaged in his responsibilities. He sent a message to the European People's Party, the largest political party in the European Parliament, and also sent a condolence telegram to the family of former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who passed away on June 12.
