The Ohio March for Life, held in Columbus, became a powerful testament to the unwavering commitment of pro-life advocates who joined hands to protect the sanctity of life. With the looming threat of Ohio Issue 1, a referendum vote that could potentially enshrine an unrestricted right to abortion in the state constitution, this gathering took on great significance.

Thousands of pro-life supporters, including substantial contingents of faithful Catholics from parishes, schools, and communities across Ohio, took part in the rally. Signs and banners with the message "Vote NO on Issue 1" were proudly displayed, emphasizing their resolute stance against this potentially detrimental proposal.

The Ohio March for Life was organized by the same group responsible for the renowned National March for Life, held annually in January, in collaboration with Ohio Right to Life. The march, which featured the participation of several prominent Ohio political leaders, including Senator J.D. Vance, occurred a month before the crucial statewide vote on Issue 1, slated for November 7.

Jeanne Mancini, President of the March for Life, expressed the gravity of the situation, stating that the upcoming vote on Issue 1 has enormous implications, not just for Ohio but for the entire nation. If approved, Issue 1 could turn Ohio into one of the most pro-abortion states in the United States, permitting abortion throughout all nine months of pregnancy and ushering in other harmful consequences.

Bishop Earl Fernandes of Columbus, who played a pivotal role in the efforts to defeat Issue 1, highlighted the urgency of the situation. Many people remain indifferent or uninformed about the far-reaching implications of this referendum, which could surpass even the infamous Roe v. Wade decision.

Bishop Fernandes emphasized that Issue 1 is not solely about abortion. This constitutional amendment, with its vague language, could also open the door to children undergoing sex reassignment surgeries without parental notification. The use of the term "reproductive choices" leaves the door open to a range of issues, including gender selection, body part harvesting, chemical castration, transgender surgeries, and gender reassignment for minors.

Bishop Fernandes issued a stark reminder that the outcome in Ohio holds significance far beyond the state's borders. "As Ohio goes, so goes the nation," he asserted. If the pro-life movement can succeed in Ohio, it can set a precedent for other states to follow.

The Ohio March for Life showcased a massive turnout, filled with prayers and hymns echoing throughout downtown Columbus. More than 650 attendees gathered for a pre-march Mass celebrated by Bishop Fernandes. While the enthusiasm was palpable, the Bishop cautioned that without active engagement in voting against Issue 1, the pro-life movement could face significant setbacks.

Bishop Fernandes underscored the critical importance of voter registration and mobilization, as well as early voting. The pro-life movement faces well-funded opposition spending millions on ads. To counter this, Bishop Fernandes stressed the need to engage all potential voters, including those in assisted living facilities and nursing homes.

We ask you, humbly: don't scroll away.

In the midst of the battle, faith remains an unwavering source of strength. Bishop Fernandes, ever reliant on prayer and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, emphasized the power of these spiritual tools. As the faithful come together in unity, they stand as a formidable force for the defense of human life.

Regardless of the referendum's outcome, Bishop Fernandes urged the pro-life movement to continue its tireless efforts in building a culture of life and a civilization of love. The battle for life is ongoing, and it is a duty upheld with unwavering faith and commitment.

In this time of uncertainty, the faithful march forward, with their voices raised in unison, declaring their unwavering support for the sanctity of life.
