Scientists get permission to carry out horrifying genetic experiments on babies, then destroy them!

Experiments will make designer babies possible.

Scientists in England have been given permission to start genetic experiments with unborn children. The scientists intend to turn off genes in between 30 - 120 unborn children just to see what happens. They claim the experiments will give them new insights that can aid fertility procedures. None of the children will ever be born, due to regulatory restrictions.

LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - Scientists in England plan to edit the genes in newly fertilized eggs, using a new gene-editing method to remove specific genes and see what happens. Specifically, they want to begin by knowing how cells begin to differentiate between days five and seven after conception.

Permission to begin the experiments has been given by the Human Fertilisation Embryology Authority in England to the Francis Crick Institute. They plan to use "leftover" children from IVF clinics for experimentation. Before proceeding, their plans will have to pass an ethics review. It is believed China has already carried out similar experiments.

Within the first week of pregnancy, the cells divide into three types, one for the body, one for the placenta, and one for a yolk that nourishes the unborn baby. Scientists want to delete genes and see if the babies still develop. Their aim is to determine why about half of all conceived children fail to develop. Their research could lead to more efficient fertility treatments, and could help delete defective genes that cause dangerous conditions and birth defects.

However, to acquire this knowledge, they must begin experimenting and destroying human lives.

Such research is unethical by Catholic standards, and controversial at best. Many fellow doctors are criticizing the plans.

Anne Scanlan of the charity, LIFE was quoted by The Telegraph, "The HFEA now has the reputation of being the first regulator in the world to approve this uncertain and dangerous technology. It has ignored the warnings of over a hundred scientists worldwide and given permission for a procedure which could have damaging far-reaching implications for human beings."

Gene editing could allow doctors to create designer babies. Imagine if someone wealthy had a custom baby designed, with good looks, high intelligence, athletic ability, longevity and so on. Such children would have an incredible advantage over their peers. If such a movement spread and became accessible only to the wealthy, the implications could be horrifying.

We could literally enter a "Brave New World" where people are segregated on a genetic basis. It would return us to a time of widespread, legalized discrimination, as once existed in the United States.

Above all, this research is being conducted at the expense of actual human life. As many as 120 unborn children, just conceived and presently frozen, will be reanimated, used for the experiments, then subsequently destroyed during the course of their development.

While the aim to eliminate genetic diseases is laudable, if it's done at the cost of other human lives, it isn't worth the price.
