Filipino Catholics stand with Pope Francis' campaign against 'globalization of indifference' this Lent season
Filipino Catholic Church invites Christians to join the campaign against the "globalization of indifference." This, according to Pope Francis, pertains to the attitude of the world that oversees the situation of those who are unwell. In line with this, The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) urges everyone to support its humanitarian activities as a tangible form of participation to cease the people's attitude of indifference.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - According to Msgr. Rolando Tria Tirona, Archbishop of Caceres and national director of Caritas Philippines, the Lenten Season must be the time for the People of God to reflect on the suffering of all, especially that of the poor and the oppressed.
Christians, according to Msgr. Tria Tirona, must also work towards the social change by being united in fighting against the destruction of the environment for a promise to the next generations to come.
Pope Francis reminded the people in his message for the Lenten Season that unlike us, God is never indifferent to the world. This has been seen when God demonstrated His love for His people when He offered His Son as a living sacrifice as the ultimate answer for humanity's suffering and poverty. The Pope stressed this a couple of times when he had his apostolic visit to the Philippines last January.

Some of the activities initiated by the Caritas Philippines include environmental protection and support to fishermen and farmers displaced by typhoon Yolanda, land reform and livelihood programs. Victims of forced eviction from the Island of Sicogon, Iloilo also being helped by the Philippine Charity.
In line with Pope Francis' message of urging the Catholic institutions to build a church for the poor, CBCP together with the National Secretariat for Social Action will have a general meeting this coming May in Rome.
