LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Ivana went on to endorse his presidential run - saying that the two are still "the best of friends."

Michael Cohen, a lawyer for the Republican candidate, recently "defended his boss from a decades-old allegation that he once forced himself on his ex-wife," according to NY Daily News.

The Daily Beast had quoted Cohen irately Trump from the allegations, which stem from the 1993 book "The Last Tycoon: The Many Lives of Donald J. Trump" by Harry Hurt III. Cohen then dropped something that has long disproven in a court of law:  That even though Trump did not rape Ivana, that it is legal to rape one's spouse.

Cohen then managed some damage control. "As an attorney, husband and father there are many injustices that offend me but nothing more than charges of rape or racism. They hit me at my core," Cohen told The News. "Rarely am I surprised by the press, but the gall of this particular reporter to make such a reprehensible and false allegation against Mr. Trump truly stunned me. In my moment of shock and anger, I made an inarticulate comment - which I do not believe - and which I apologize for entirely."

In an email to the Daily News, Cohen admitted that he "made an inarticulate comment."

In the meantime, Ivana had only the warmest things to say about her ex-husband. "Donald and I are the best of friends and together have raised three children that we love and are very proud of. I have nothing but fondness for Donald and wish him the best of luck on his campaign," she said.

Donald Trump, in his first comments on the matter called the accusations "total nonsense.

"First of all, it's totally false. I was really happy to see to this because I heard about it and it never happened, it was total nonsense," Trump on the radio program "Geraldo Rivera Show." "They know that. Maybe it was a lawyer tactic or something.

"I don't know where the hell it came from, but it certainly didn't happen. You would've heard about that many years ago," Trump added, before quoting his ex-wife's statement on air.

"There's no rape there, believe me," Trump said. "If that happens you don't issue a statement like that. And she just issued it, which I must tell you I thought was terrific."
