Judge says parents performed emotional and psychological harm on straight-A student

A 16-year-old girl in East London has been removed from her home after a judge ruled that she was being radicalized by her parents with Islamic State propaganda. The straight-A student, known only as "B" was stopped last year when she tried to fly to Syria to become a jihadi bride in December of last year.

Judge Anthony Hayden, pictured, today compared the radicalization of the 16-year-old girl, known as B as similar to that as child sex abuse.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Declaring that the female student had suffered "psychological and emotional harm," Justice Hayden said that her "deceitful" mother and father were just as culpable as child molesters were.

An investigation of the home turned up bomb making guides and pictures of beheadings.

Ruling that she needed to be safe from the pernicious influence of Islamic State propaganda, the High Court judge read out a list of the terror documents police found on electronic files at the home she shared with her parents.

Some of the material belonged to her, some to her siblings and parents. Police say the information was shared by the entire family all. Electronic devices said to belong to the parents showed lectures inciting armed attacks on non-Muslims.

Counter-terrorism officers removed "B" from her Turkey-bound plane already taxiing on the runway at Heathrow last December.

At that time, her parents appeared to cooperate with police and social workers. She was allowed to return to the family house where she was being home taught.

"B's" parents sat impassively alongside their daughter throughout the hearing. Both claimed that they tried to keep ISIS propaganda away from her, although this was later described as "a consummately successful deception" of the authorities, the court was told.

Their daughter downloaded a manual called "44 Ways to Support Jihad." Police also found advice on how to avoid airport security, including a section for young women intending to travel to Syria.

She had also used the Internet to search for the current response times of the Met Police's firearms unit.

One of girl's siblings had also downloaded news reports of men being prepared for death by Islamic State fanatics.

Putting the teenager into state care, the judge said, "I can see no way in which her psychological, emotional, and intellectual integrity can be protected by her remaining in this household. The farrago of sophisticated dishonesty of the parents makes this entirely unsustainable.

"The violation contemplated here is not of the body but it is of the mind . it involves harm of a similar magnitude," Judge Hayden added.
