LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Breaking her neck last June after she swerved to avoid a deer, Gorden's truck rolled into a ditch. Refusing to accept these new limitations, intensive therapy coupled with Gorden's sheer allowed her to re-learn how to walk.

Gorden, from Iowa says it never occurred to her that she wouldn't walk again. She had been due to captain her team on a summer trip to Hawaii, but was told that she may never be able to stand on her own two feet again.

Moved to Craig Hospital in Englewood, Colorado, Gorden underwent groundbreaking therapy. Along with her determination, she managed to walk down the aisle for her sibling Brittanie's big day in September.

"I never accepted that I couldn't walk again," Gorden, from Lake City, told reporters. "If I don't want to be in the chair, I've got to do something myself to get out of it," she added.

Not only did she learn to walk again . She learned how to do it in party shoes.

Gorden also earned how to brush her hair and use a wheelchair. She was stunned when Dr. William Scelza came in and she saw he was also paralyzed.

Undergoing loco-motor therapy - which recreates the motions of walking until the spinal cord learns how to control muscles, Gorden became mobile again.

"If he went to med school, I can be a nurse," she thought to herself.

Under intensive therapy, she was soon able to stand for 26 seconds. Two months later, the time had risen to five minutes - and with further hard work she hopes to increase that.

Gorden returned to her wheelchair shortly after walking down the aisle.
