Bishop Joseph P. McFadden celebrated a Mass of Thanksgiving for the Ministry of Pope Benedict XVI on Friday, February 22 at noon in St. Patrick Cathedral, Harrisburg. This is the homily that he preached. On the calendar of the Catholic Church, the Feast of the Chair of St. Peter is celebrated on February 22. This feast dates to the mid-fourth century and celebrates the ministry of the Apostle Peter who accepted Pastoral responsibility and authority from Jesus Christ and became the first pope. Pope Benedict XVI is the 264th successor to St. Peter, which makes him the 265th pope of the Catholic Church.
