Popular attraction depicts endangered bears in Arctic setting

The San Diego Zoo has reopened its popular attraction,the Conrad Prebys Polar Bear Plunge exhibit. New, updated features will give visitors a chance to crawl through a polar bear's snow den, pop their heads through a seal's breathing hole in the ice, and climb into an Arctic research helicopter.

The Zoo is updating its polar bear exhibit to better explain how a polar bear lives in the arctic and the challenges the species is facing due to climate change.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) � There will be plenty of photo opportunities at the exhibit as well. Life-size statues will allow tourists to pose next to fully grown polar bears and cozy up to a one-year-old cub. There will be a "How You Measure Up Station," where guests will see how they compare to polar bears in height, weight and size. Visitors can also gather on a scale to figure out how many people it takes to weigh as much as an adult polar bear.

The Zoo is updating its polar bear exhibit to better explain how a polar bear lives in the arctic and the challenges the species is facing due to climate change.

A trip to San Diego, California is not complete without a trip to the San Diego Zoo. The 80-plus year old zoo was among the first to feature animals in a replication of their natural habitats. It is the current leader among zoos in the breeding of endangered species.

The San Diego Zoo currently hosts about 4,000 animals, including mammals, reptiles and birds. All live in a subtropical garden covering a hundred hilly acres.
