Brett Favre to Return: Obligated to his teammates
Substantial raise didn't hurt, he says
Vikings quarterback Brett Favre says he's coming back for his 20th NFL season. He says he's doing it for his fellow teammates - although a substantial raise in his pay didn't hurt his decision, either.
Vikibngsd quarterback Brett Favre got a raise from his usual $13 million to $16 million, with another $4 million in incentives.
LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Favre got a raise from his usual $13 million to $16 million, with another $4 million in incentives.
While it would be far too easy to see Favre's absence from the first few weeks of training camp as nothing more than a contract holdout, Favre insists that the main reason he's returning is not on account of the money.
"I knew that would be some peoples' assumption," Favre told NBC. "It was tempting, but I've always made a lot of money, and I knew I didn't need it." Favre is already very well off. His "regular guy" image aside, he's made more than $100 million over the last 20 years
He insists that all the moolah wasn't the deciding factor. "Honestly, no," Favre says. "It all came back to feeling obligated to the guys. That was really the strongest pull. I'm no fool. It's a lot of money. But that in itself was not the biggest factor."
Favre is an American football quarterback in the National Football League for the Minnesota Vikings. He is a 19-year veteran, predominantly as the starting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers (1992-2007). He also played a single season each for the Atlanta Falcons (1991), New York Jets (2008) and Minnesota Vikings (2009-).
