Basilla, also known as Basilissa, was a member of a noble Roman family. She refused to marry Pompeius, a Roman patrician, after her conversion to Christianity. She was beheaded for her faith when she was denounced to Emperor Galienus by Pompeius and remained steadfast in her refusal to marry him. The facts of the story are uncertain. Her feast day is May 20th.

thank you for this most informative website, I am astounded by the amount female saints who have been beheaded! there is much controversy to breastfeeding as it is such a wonderful gift to human survival I will always thank St Basilissa for her patronage to this cause...thank you St Basilissa...and for her support to women
