Businessman Incorporates Charity, Father's Day Weekend

COCONUT CREEK, FL (June 13, 2011) - On weekends for almost eight months now, many local residents have donated their time to help prepare a unique business near Ft. Lauderdale Beach to open; The Spice Quarter's ultimate mission - to nourish people, here in the United States and abroad, through community-supported outreach events from its location at 2434 E. Las Olas Blvd.

On Friday, June 17, The Spice Quarter, just west of the Intracoastal bridge, will open its doors from 4 to 7 p.m. to invite local residents and workers near downtown and the surrounding Las Olas areas to browse the store while they drop off unexpired, high-protein, canned goods and baby formula for destitute families in Haiti. The Spice Quarter food drive will continue on Saturday, June 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Father's Day, June 19 from 1 to 3 p.m. Joined by partner 90.3 GraceFM, all food collected in honor of dad over Father's Day weekend will be delivered to the South Florida-based interdenominational Christian agency Food For The Poor.

To help immediately, a donation of $12 to feed a family of four for a month can be made online at www.foodforthepoor.org. Non-perishable food items can be delivered to Food For The Poor Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at 6401 Lyons Road, Coconut Creek, FL 33073. Clothing items will not be accepted.

Embrace your Faith

While community involvement is not unique for local businesses, The Spice Quarter concept is new to South Florida because, in a very literal way, its guests will also be nourished as well. Visitors are encouraged to sample, all under one roof, an array of familiar and international flavors of hard-to-find cooking spices, herbs, infused extra virgin olive oils and flavored balsamics in Ft. Lauderdale's first ingredient store of its kind. The ever-expanding community of local home-cooks can rediscover their culinary creativity Father's Day weekend while helping others in need. The Spice Quarter envisions that its most passionate supporters will be those who know that they are blessed enough to be able to afford food and have a desire to feed those who do not have the same ability right now. The Spice Quarter welcomes the community to spread the word, so that together we can assist as many people as possible with this first outreach event.

Food For The Poor, the third-largest international relief and development organization in the nation, provides food, emergency relief assistance, clean water, medicines, educational materials, homes, support for orphans and the aged, skills training and micro-enterprise development assistance, with more than 96 percent of all donations going directly to programs that help the poor.
