Three Notable Catholics to be Honored by RENEW International

PLAINFIELD, NJ (May 11, 2011) - RENEW International, a Catholic not-for-profit organization based in Plainfield, New Jersey, will hold its twelfth annual fundraising gala on June 2, 2011 at the Pleasantdale Chateau, West Orange, NJ. Sr. Terry Rickard, O.P., RENEW International's President and Executive Director, will present awards to three notable Catholics who have played a significant role in fostering RENEW International's mission of spreading Gospel values in daily life.
"We at RENEW International are truly blessed to pay tribute to the faithfulness, leadership, and service represented by these three exemplary individuals," Sister Rickard said. "They are models of Catholic commitment in their personal and professional lives, with a level of dedication that is exceptional."
Sr. Mary McGuinness, O.P., is the recipient of the Msgr. Thomas A. Kleissler Award, named in honor of RENEW's president emeritus and co-founder. This award, to be presented for the first time this year, goes to a person who exemplifies the remarkable qualities of Msgr. Kleissler: a visionary spirit of church renewal, commitment to justice, dedication to lay leadership, and devotion to spiritual renewal.
Sr. Mary, a Dominican Sister of Caldwell, NJ, is especially well-qualified for this important new award. She traces her RENEW roots to the early days at the Office of Pastoral RENEW in the Archdiocese of Newark. For three decades, she led small Christian community efforts and co-authored and edited many of RENEW's faith-sharing resources. Previously, she was a pastoral associate at St. Philomena's Church, Livingston, NJ, and taught at Caldwell College, Lacordaire and Mount St. Dominic Academies, and many grade schools. Sr. Mary graduated from Villanova University and St. John's University, Collegeville, MN. She served on the boards of RENEW International and Genesis Farm.
Mr. Ronald Bushwell will receive the President's Award, presented to an individual who has advanced RENEW's mission of evangelization, spiritual renewal, and faith formation. A committed life-long Catholic, Mr. Bushwell has served and generously supported RENEW International for many years. A well-known leader in the life insurance industry, Ron graduated from the University of Connecticut, where he majored in business administration and co-captained the basketball team in his senior year. After graduation, he joined the Marine Corps and served three years in Okinawa as a first lieutenant. Ron and his wife, Rose, have six children and fourteen grandchildren. They are parishioners of St. Philomena's Church, Livingston, NJ.
Mr. William (Bill) McGuire will receive the Spirit of RENEW award, given to an individual who has exemplified the Catholic values central to the mission of RENEW, and through word and deed, spread the message of the Gospel. Mr. McGuire truly lives his faith in his daily life, a faith that was formed during his Catholic education. He is the managing law partner at Tomkins, McGuire, Wachenfeld, & Barry, LLP, Newark, NJ, and a graduate of Fordham University, Seton Hall University, and New York University. He has donated many hours of pro bono legal services to those in need. He currently serves on the boards of Immaculate Conception Seminary, St. Barnabas Corporation, and St. Barnabas Medical Center. Bill has five children; he and his wife Lois are parishioners of the Church of Christ the King, New Vernon, NJ.
RENEW International's gala raises funds each year to support the organization's mission of building dynamic communities of faith. Through RENEW's pastoral services for parishes and campuses in the United States and beyond, many Catholics have been strengthened in their faith, returned to the sacramental life of the Church, and reached out to others with acts of charity and justice.
